Dear Intonation Families, Friends, and Supporters,
We are thrilled to share the news that we are welcoming long-time program partner, board member, and parent, Tonya Howell, as our next Executive Director! Tonya has been a collaborative partner of Intonation for over 10 years, having served as a teacher and school director at the University of Chicago Charter School’s North Kenwood Oakland campus. Most recently, Tonya has worked in Chicago Public Schools as a Social Emotional Learning (SEL) Integration Specialist, designing and leading professional development for teachers and school leaders to improve SEL, with a focus on social justice, equity, and culturally relevant teaching.
As an Intonation board member, Tonya has dedicated time to the professional development of Intonation’s program team. She has shared her knowledge of community-responsive instructional practices as well as SEL support for our virtual programming during the pandemic.
Tonya brings 20 years of experience as an educator and is a committed community advocate of Greater Bronzeville. She has a BA in Elementary Education and an MEd in Education Administration, along with certificates in School Management and Leadership, and DEI in the Workplace. She is a resident of Hyde Park, and the single mother of two children, both of whom are long-time Intonation students.
We are deeply excited to have her knowledge, experience, and passion for youth development at Intonation’s helm as we move forward in our mission. We can’t wait for you to meet her soon!
